Optimal Design Automation for a Quantum Software Stack
Description

Quantum computing offers an enormous potential to solve difficult problems, for instance in simulating chemistry for drug discovery, but also in other fields like green energy, logistics and finance. One major challenge in quantum computing that hinders us from harvesting this power is the gap between high-level quantum algorithms and low-level quantum hardware. This gap forces quantum engineers to “fight the machine” rather than to efficiently produce high-quality quantum software. Our vision is to fill this gap with a Danish Quantum Software Stack. In the IFD Grand Solutions project ODAQS, we will automate quantum software design, thus radically simplifying the production of effective quantum software. This requires research at Aarhus and Aalborg University to develop methods and tools for synthesizing, simulating and verifying quantum programs, and compiling them optimally to specific quantum hardware platforms. Kvantify will demonstrate the impact of better quantum software in computational chemistry to speed up drug discovery.
