From Excel to AI: How Big Data Is Changing Production Planning
Description

Production planning is moving beyond spreadsheets, static forecasts, and decisions based largely on historical averages. As factories generate increasing volumes of real-time data, AI is creating a new way to plan production—one that is more dynamic, predictive, and responsive to changing conditions.

In this session, Vytautas Šiožinys will explore how manufacturers can evolve from Excel-based planning toward AI-driven decision-making. Drawing on practical industrial experience, he will show how production, energy, equipment, and process data can be combined to forecast demand and constraints, identify inefficiencies, simulate alternative scenarios, and continuously optimize production plans.

The session will also address a critical question: what does it actually take to move from having lots of data to making better decisions with it? Participants will leave with a practical view of where AI can create value in production planning today, where traditional approaches still work, and how manufacturers can begin the transition without replacing everything at once.
