Anna Vallgårda is Professor of Design Research at the IT University of Copenhagen, and Deputy Director of the new Danish Center for Design Research. Anna uses design to explore our relations with intimate care technologies like Type 1 diabetes technologies, self-tracking, and technologies for reproductive health. She is concerned with the violence these technologies cause when people living with them are not attuned to their algorithms, data flows, and material entanglements. Living with intimate care technologies is rarely a simple human-technology relation but involves multiple actors with multiple responsibilities and relations vis-à-vis the main actor. Thus, exploring how they can be designed otherwise requires complex explorations of their ecologies. Anna Vallgårda is also Head of Section for the Human Computer Interaction and Design section at ITU.
