Tobias's primary research focuses on combining technical research with clinical science to improve patient diagnostics and provide minimally invasive treatments. He is the research director of the Surgical Ultrasound Research Group in Copenhagen (SURGiC), an interdisciplinary group comprising both medical doctors and technical engineers. The group also developed several innovative solutions, filed patent applications, and established a spinout company called 3Sonic. Tobias is also the Coordinating Associate Professor for the ​Technical University Hospital of Greater Copenhagen (TUH) and President of the Danish Society of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DSDU).
