Dr Luc Julia is a human-machine interaction specialist. He co-created voice assistant Siri at Apple, was Chief Technologist at HP, and co-founded several start-ups in the Silicon Valley. He is currently the Scientific Director at Renault.

As CTO and VP of Innovation for Samsung 2012-17, he led the company’s vision and strategy for the ‘Internet of Things’. As Technical Director and SVP at Samsung, he helped develop the new Artificial Intelligence Lab of Samsung in Paris (SAIL) with the focus on making everyday products smarter for everyone by defining a new generation of objects.

In April 2021, Luc Julia joins Renault Group as Scientific Director. His main mission consists of driving the innovation strategy, mobilising AI, working on human-machine interfaces’ design and connectivity.

Luc Julia is the author of the bestseller “Artificial intelligence does not exist” which holds dozens of patents and is recognized as one of the top 100 most influential French developers in the digital world.

As a French inventor since his early childhood, Dr Luc Julia built a robot to make his bed at age nine. He graduated from Pierre et Marie Curie University (Paris) in mathematics and computer science and holds a PhD in computer science from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (Paris).

After graduating, he moved to Silicon Valley to start his career at SRI International to create the “Computer Human Interaction Center” (CHIC). He developed alongside his team the first smart refrigerators and smart vehicles.

Dr Luc Julia also participated in the launch of Nuance Communications in 1994, the world leader in speech recognition. Nuance develops solutions for a variety of sectors such as healthcare and automotive industries, financial services and public administration.

After ten years of research, he spent the following ten years building several start-ups in Silicon Valley. Over the past ten years, he worked for big companies such as HP, Apple and Samsung to lead development teams.
