Claudio Pica is Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA) at the University of Southern Denmark and Director of the SDU eScience Center. He holds degrees in theoretical physics from the University of Pisa and Scuola Normale Superiore and a PhD in Physics from the University of Pisa.
His research focuses on theoretical particle physics and advanced computational methods, and he has also played a central role in the development of Danish research infrastructure for high-performance computing (HPC) and eScience. As Director of the SDU eScience Center, he has been a driving force behind the development of UCloud, which makes advanced computing and data resources more accessible to researchers across disciplines. Most recently, Pica has played a key role in the establishment of BITTEN, the new AI supercomputer in Sønderborg, developed in collaboration with Danfoss and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE).
